Job Summary: 

This role is responsible for designing and developing Propulsion systems and capabilities in the system engineering function layer at the logical and physical solution domain for the systems that interact with xHEV (12/48/400+ Volts) Power Supply System. You will be responsible for building and owning the generic system artifacts for new and existing Powertrain propulsion concepts, capabilities and features in the (xHEV Diesel/Gasoline) space ensuring they are legally compliant, meets customer attributes expectations and are competitive in the market. Some of these artifacts are (but not limited to) customer requirements mapping, feature/capability definition, Use case analysis, Logical architecture diagram, Functional Failure Analysis, generic functional requirements cascade, test case mapping, target generation and issue resolution for Powerpacks. You will be subject matter expert for the physical base solution within the Core system – xHEV Power Supply in Diesel/Gasoline 48v MHEV, Gasoline 400v PHEV (you may interact with BEV 400-800v) applications and 12v PSS, with particular focus in Energy generation, distribution, conversion, storage, and management, for different use cases like but not limited to performance and driveability, Efficiency, charging, thermal (cold/Hot), durability/life/health, EMC and NVH. Your area will critically interact with other different core systems for which Special requirements for this role are a good knowledge and experience in mid/high voltage electrification applied in ICE PTs and transmissions systems (MHEV/PHEV), torque, thermal energy management, AND some knowledge in aftertreatment system and Gas-path, pollutant emissions and requirements in different markets assisted by electrification, with understanding on strategy development, calibration and controls and customer interfacing through HMI.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Robust requirements and targets delivered on-cycle to programmes for the xV Power Supply Core system.

  • System artifacts (MBSE models, use case analysis, decision tree, LAD, FFA/DFMEA/DRBFM, DVP, requirements, standards) developed off-cycle and updated on-cycle as required.

  • New functions delivered by statement of capability (SOC) and Feature statement of intent (FSOI) process.

  • Robust design of Test cases and when the application is innovative, ability to design experiments (DoE) methods and technical studies to confirm targets

  • Lead the analysis of complex data from CAE and physical test properties.

  • System compatibility Issues identified, reported and efficiently resolved

  • Ensure functions adherence to the use of specified engineering methods, computer tools and aids applied

  • Support indirect team members understanding of the feature or capability with your expert knowledge.

  • Participate and Chair when necessary technical reviews/forums and resolve complex cross functional issues.

  • Develop methods & run technical studies into future technologies

  • Support the design & development of Propulsion System.

  • Work with design teams to develop and optimise solutions considering multi-attributes within defined deadlines and time constraints.

  • Support the continual development of tools and techniques which enhance capability, improve quality and robustness of Virtual models.

  • Conduct the design analysis and development with utmost quality within agile framework

Skills Knowledge and Experience 

​​Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field

  • 5+ years of experience in emissions simulation, engine design, or a related role.

  • MHEV/PHEV and/or BEV propulsion system integration.

  • Expertise in Propulsion/Powertrain Engineering in: HV, MV, LV Power Supply Systems applied on ICE/BEV applications.

  • Relevant experience in development of electrified propulsion system as MHEV, PHEV and/or BEV. Sizing and validating HV Batt/Inverter/Electric Motor/Drive unit/Charging systems.

  • Relevant experience of working in a Systems Engineering environment - ideally within the Automotive Sector

  • Relevant experience of system definition, system architecture development, requirements specification, design/performance modelling, systems integration, system assessment and acceptance

  • Experience in applying Systems Engineering and in solving complex technical issues using a structured approach

  • Relevant design/sizing, and control of electrified propulsion systems, especially in Battery management Systems (BMS), Torque path strategies in EDU/Inverter and energy management and thermal management for performance, driveability, efficiency, charging and other relevant use cases.

  • Relevant experience in durability of xV systems, Battery charge/discharge, life and health.

  • Relevant experience of sub-systems HV/MV/LV batteries, DC/DC converters, inverters, and electric machines (EM), dive units, AC/DC charging.

  • Experience in model base system engineering and/or any tool for Systems Architecting.

  • Experience and exposure to CAE on vehicle, propulsion and sub-systems. • Experience in defining Test cases and DoE for HIL, PIL, VIL and vehicle environment.

  • Capable of complex data analytics from CAE and physical testing, mathematical projection, estimation, walk generation. (complexes excel macro/database, Matlab, ETAS INCA/MDA, Concerto, CANape, ATI Vision).

  • Awareness of industry standards and regulations for Battery Safety: UNECE R100, FMVSS No. 305a, GTR No. 22 / Charging Systems: ISO 15118, IEC 61851 / EMC: UNECE R10 / EDU safety and performance.

  • Good understanding of 8D issue resolution and data statistics 6 sigma methods.

  • Familiarity with Product Creation Development System [PCDS] which could be delivered via Agile Groups / Squads. Desirable

  • Expert experience beyond xV Power Supply Systems (EDU-Inverters, HV Systems/Bateries-Charging) but Torque and Energy Arbitration, and electrification applied to Emissions, After-treatment, Gas-path in the specific area of ICE applications.

  • Relevant calibration and control exposure in propulsion system

  • Experience of Magic System/TRM of Systems Architect

  • CAE experience on vehicle and propulsion sub-systems with exposure to Simulink modelling
