Position: Test Methods/Case Author - Engineer

Job Summary: 

We are looking for a Core Test Methods Engineer to have the capability to cover software, hardware, integration, system and vehicle level testing for Traction Batteries, BMS, Inverters, EDUs, E-Machines and other power electronics components. The team is responsible to determine the appropriate content for internal and supplier test implementation and apply best-in-class test techniques on both our supplier-developed content and our in-house designs. Review the requirements and author / write Test Methods from the requirements. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Support the test process during development and production release phases for components with application on numerous electrified Powertrain programmes: For components such as 

    • Power Electronics 

    • Low Voltage & High Voltage Components 

    • Mechanical Component 

    • Traction Batteries, EDUs, E-Machines 

    • Softwares 

  • Ensure robust test methods are developed and realised to achieve Program milestones and targets (Risk Identification, Quality / Functional defect detection & removal, and timing) 

  • Work with a ‘Statement of Requirements’ and highlight our test needs during supplier sourcing discussions 

  • Familiarity with requirements management toolchain and what makes a good requirement 

  • Review of existing test methods against requirements and lessons learnt. Develop/customise test methods to align with new/modified requirements and continuous improvement 

  • Support the commission of new and modified test cases via the test implementation engineers covering component software test benches and load rigs and systems-level testing 

  • Support the test process maturation as the business migrates from an established local process in IBM DOORS to a new business-wide test and requirements toolset 

  • Interact with the application teams and facility teams to ensure the equipment needed for application tests is available on time 

  • Mentor and coordinate team members, including junior engineers and apprentices. 

 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required: 

Essential – 

  • Experience in software engineering, electrical engineering or other related mechanical / mechatronics technical qualifications 

  • Experience in automotive powertrain engineering in a test environment covering software and load rigs 

  • Familiarity with electrical, EMC, climatic, environmental, and lifetime test techniques 

  • An understanding of the correlation process between real-world use profiles and accelerated testing 

  • Understanding of control systems hardware, sensor technology, control software and diagnostics 

  • Experience in test virtualisation, CAE correlation, component rig test, system test and vehicle testing 

  • Experience in operating and debugging dSpace HiL rigs in powertrain applications. Preferably with PE components (inverters, DCDC converters & chargers) 

  • Experience in writing Design Validation Methods (DVM) from the requirements and also peer review of requirements during the requirements maturation process 

  • Strong people skills and the ability to work individually and in a cross-functional team 

Desirable 

  • Knowledge of typical BEV, MHEV and PHEV system solutions and technologies 

  • Understanding of regulatory needs applicable to BEV and PHEV solutions 

  • Experience with complex high voltage systems 

  • Experience in test automation scripting 

  • Experience in defining and/or using appropriate analysis tools to optimise and verify thermal performance and hardware reliability/ durability 

  • Wide knowledge of electronic devices and circuits and their application, including design for EMC and circuit board robustness for condensation
