Job Summary: 

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of propulsion architectures, energy flow, and vehicle-level performance, and will play a key role in gathering, analysing, and interpreting competitive intelligence to inform product development and technology roadmaps.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and conduct benchmarking activities focused on xHEV propulsion systems, including vehicle teardown, instrumentation, and test execution. 

  • Collect and analyze propulsion system data (e.g., engine, motor, transmission, battery performance) from physical tests and simulations. 

  • Generate detailed technical reports and comparative studies highlighting strengths, weaknesses, and innovations in competitor systems. 

  • Support the creation of competitive intelligence databases to feed product strategy and R&D decisions. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (propulsion, electrical, calibration, systems engineering) to interpret benchmarking insights. 

  • Stay up to date with industry trends, new propulsion technologies, and regulatory developments. 

 

Propulsion System Benchmarking:  Analysing and comparing various propulsion systems, including electric motors, batteries, power electronics, and control systems.  

Vehicle Performance Analysis:  Evaluating key performance metrics like fuel efficiency, acceleration, top speed, and range in both xHEV and traditional vehicles.  

Component Analysis:  Investigating the architecture, layouts, and key design features of components like the HV battery, electric drive units (EDUs), and power electronics.  

Competitive Analysis:  Comparing the performance and features of your company's vehicles against those of competitors.  

Data Visualization: Using scatter band diagrams and other visualizations to present the benchmarking results.  

 

Target Setting:  Defining realistic development goals based on the benchmarking analysis.  

 

Teardown Studies:  Performing detailed teardown studies on vehicles to assess system architecture and component designs.  

 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required: 

 

Technical Skills: 

  • In-depth understanding of xHEV propulsion system architectures and component integration. 

  • Experience in vehicle benchmarking, propulsion performance analysis, and energy flow evaluation. 

  • Proficiency with data logging, instrumentation tools, and post-processing software (e.g., INCA, ETAS, CANalyzer, MATLAB). 

  • Ability to interpret test data, drive cycles, and efficiency maps. 

  • Strong technical reporting and documentation skills. 

 

Experience: 

  • 6+ years of experience in automotive benchmarking, propulsion engineering, or related roles. 

  • Hands-on involvement with vehicle or subsystem teardown and analysis, preferably with xHEV or EV platforms. 

  • Exposure to development or calibration of electrified powertrains is a plus. 

 

Soft Skills: 

  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and critical thinking. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical and strategic audiences. 

  • Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate across engineering and product teams. 

  • Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple tasks with minimal supervision. 

 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
